Can I replace a garage door spring myself?
We strongly advise against it. A torsion spring stores hundreds of pounds of force and requires proper winding bars and technique. Spring replacement is one of the most common causes of serious garage-related injuries in Ontario homes.
How long do garage door springs last?
A standard spring is rated for roughly 10,000 cycles — about 7 to 10 years for an average household. If you open the door four or more times a day, expect closer to 5 years, or ask us about a high-cycle upgrade.
Should I replace both springs if only one broke?
Yes. Both springs have gone through the same number of cycles, so the surviving one is near the end of its life. Replacing both at once costs less than two separate service calls.
